Below you will find the most frequently asked questions and the answers to them:

Question: Which contaminations will be filtered by a Clean Air Optima ionizer/air
                 purifier?

Answer:

Fine dust, dust, pollen, viruses, bacteria, microorganisms, mould, house dust mite excrements, particles that cause odours, volatile organic compounds such as volatile solvents, gases that erupt from paint, varnish, cleaning detergents, glue, copying-fluids, ink and dander from pets, foods or cigarette smoke are purified of the air..

Question: What are ions and where are they found?

Answer:

Ions are molecules, which have at least lost or gained one electron and are therefore either negatively or positively charged and thus polarised. A relatively high amount of negative ions can be found in fresh mountain or sea air, but also in the air after a thunder storm caused by UV-radiation, lightening and tiny water droplets that react with the air molecules. Ions always strive for a neutral position. Some will be neutralised immediately after they occur and others have a longer life-span depending on the circumstances. Ions are capable of bonding to aerosols – those are solid or fluent compounds in gases – as well as to dust particles. These will become heavier than the surrounding air and then descend. Ions will also bond to bacteria and germs of diseases and eliminate them by electrical charge.

Question: What is the effect of ions on humans?

Answer:

Biology scientists have proven that negative oxygen ions in our respiratory air are essential for our metabolism. With the help of oxygen the body burns food elements such as fat, carbohydrates and proteins and turns them into carbon dioxide and water. Inhaling in ionized air will improve the oxygen levels in the blood, which will make the organs function better and the overall cellular metabolism will improve. The negative ions make it easier for the body to absorb oxygen and see to it that less histamine (a body’s own substance which can cause a coughing can cause tussive irritation) is released in the respiratory system. Negative ions remove bacteria, revive the body cells, increase the oxygen levels and improve the metabolism. Other advantages of negative ions are the improved vigilance, less tiredness, better immune system, fewer headache, less insomnia, less constipation, allergies or asthma.

Question: What is an ionizer?

Answer:

An ionizer is an electrical machine for the production of negatively charged electrons called ions. The ions are produced with the help of electrical high tension. These negatively charged ions will mostly bond to dust, germs of diseases and bacteria so that the contamination of the air in your home or office because of dust, cigarette smoke, pollen and fungi are decreased. Not only dust particles in the air will be neutralised, but also harmful gases such as formaldehyde, sulphur dioxide and hydrocarbon compounds. Thanks to the artificial ionization the natural concentration of negative ions is restored. An ionizer produces between 20,000 and 200,000 ions per second. In order to guarantee correct concentration it is important that temperature ranges between 20°C and the relative humidity is between 45 and 60%. The bio-climate that our ionizers create is rich in active oxygen molecules, which makes the living and working environment clean and fresh. The Clean Air high-oxygen bio-climate causes a feeling of well-being, energy and concentration.

Question: What is ionized air?

Answer:

Ionized means that the oxygen is either positively or negatively charged. The air that flows from one of our ionizers has been ionized negatively. The exceptional effect of the produced active oxygen exceeds the effect of regular oxygen, which means that the ionized oxygen will be more easily absorbed by the body cells. Scientists have proven that negative ions are vital life elements. A healthy naturally high concentration of negative ions can be found in mountain air, by the sea and after a thunder storm. Due to the fine dust in our large cities the number of negative ions which are vital to our health is minimal.

How safe are the Clean Air Optima Air Purifier?

Answer:

All Clean Air Optima product have the CE-mark. If a product is CE-confrom is fulfils the safety standards of the EU. All Clean Air Optima products are tested before they leave the factory. All supplying factories possess the ISO-certificate.

Question: How does the electrostatic filter work? Why is no ventilation or motor necessary?

Answer:

An electrostatic field is build up within the device, which energizes the particles and pollen in the air, which are then bound to the lamella of the stainless steel dust collector. All kinds of particles will stick to the lamella. The air loses its electric tension; and clean and healthy air flows through the room. The air purifier can thus absorb and filter the air without motor of ventilation.

Question: Can the CA-266, CA-366, CA-388, CA-401 and CA-288 air purifier be turned on
24/7 and can it also be used in a bedroom?

Answer:

Yes, the air purifier can be switched on permanently and thanks to the silent operation it will not disrupt your night’s rest.

Question: How much noise does a CA-266, CA-366, CA-388, CA-401 and CA-288
                 air purifier generate?

Answer:

Air purifiers CA-266, CA-366, CA-388, CA-401 and CA-288 generate no noise at all. The air purifiers circulate the air without the annoying sound of ventilators! The air is led through the machine silently by means of the 2-way (plasma) technology which results in a constant air flow without a ventilator! As the air passes through the system it will be electrostatic charged and tiny contaminated particles will be caught by the RVS (stainless steel) electrostatic filter.

Question: How do I clean the RVS electrostatic filter of a CA-266, CA-366, CA-388,
                 CA-401 and CA-288 air purifier?

Answer:

Turn the machine off and remove the plug from the socket. Then wait for about one minute. Then you slide the RVS electrostatic filter out at the top of the air purifier and wipe it with a damp cloth. Dry the filter carefully! You do not need to purchase any replacement filters. Attention: Never place the filter back into the machine when it is still wet. Warning: Never touch the metal part of the filter before you have discharged your own static electricity against a metal object such as a central heating radiator. We recommend to clean the device once a week when used continually (24/7) under normal circumstances.

Question: For which room sizes are the CA-266, CA-277, CA-366, CA-388, CA-401 and CA-288 air purifiers suitable?

Answer:

  • The CA-266 is applicable up to : 160 ft²
  • The CA-277 is applicable up to : 215 ft²
  • The CA-366 is applicable up to : 430 ft²
  • The CA-388 is applicable up to : 430 ft²
  • The CA-401 is applicable up to : 645 ft²
  • The CA-288 is applicable up to : 860 ft²

The air purifiers can also be used in larger room spaces but their effectiveness will decrease when used in a larger areas. It is possible to place several air purifiers in one room.

Question: Should I still air the room when my air purifier is in use?

Answer:

Yes, we recommend you to continue airing the room; an air purifier will clean the air but does not produce it.

Question: Can several air purifiers be used in the same area?

Answer:

Yes, this is no problem but it would of course only concern a larger space.

Question: How fast and thorough does cigarette smoke disappear when I turn the
Clean Air Optima air purifier on?

Answer:

It cannot be determined how fast cigarette/cigar/ pipe smoke disappears: this is subject to the quantity of the smoke / the degree of pollution/ size of the space / ventilation of the space. When using our air purifiers in a space for which it has been designed the smoke will gradually disappear and thanks to the high negative ion production of the ionizer and the effect of the photocatalytic (TiO2) filter / UV lamp the smell of smoke will no longer be detectable after a while.

Tip:

If the degree of pollution of the smoke in a space is very high we advise you to opt for an air purifier with a five-folded purification technique which has a high capacity for the space involved, such as the Clean Air Optima CA-288.

Question: How does the supersonic air humidification technology work?

Answer:

The effective technology of air humidification turns water in micro-fine cold or hot steam, which is released to the air where it evaporates directly.

Question: What are the most important features of this system?

Answer:

The supersonic air humidifier is an effective and silent product with a high humidification rate. If the water is rich in chalk the decalcification of the water is very important and the ceramic filter needs to be exchanged more frequently.

Question: How is the supersonic air humidifier maintained?

Answer:

If the calcification becomes visible the air humidifier can be cleaned with a brush. The water tank can be cleaned with household decalcifier.

Application and Maintenance Only use cold or distilled water when using the supersonic air humidifier. Cleaning of the supersonic rubber mounting, water tank and basin needs to be done once a week- The device needs to be supplied with fresh water at all times. If it is not in use for a longer time, all pieces should be cleaned and dried thoroughly.

Question: How can the supersonic air humidifier be stored in summer?

Answer:

The device needs to be cleaned and dried thoroughly. It should not be stored in a place where it gets very hot.

Question: Which accessories are necessary for the supersonic air humidifier?

Answer:

Depending on the calcification of the water the supersonic air humidifier will need 2 to 3 ceramic filters per season. If white deposits on the furniture become visible the filter needs to be exchanged more often.

Question: Do supersonic air humidifier need a hygrostat (control device)

Answer:

Our supersonic air humidifiers have an embedded hygrostat. The desired air humidity can be controlled with the device.

Question: How effective is the supersonic air humidifier, how fast does it humidify?

Answer:

The devices are very effective. They can release 300g of water in one hour. Of course they are the most efficient at the beginning. The amount of released water can be regulated with the control device.

Question: Is the supersonic air humidification sanitary?

Answer:

The supersonic air humidifier needs to be cleaned regularly. If the ceramic filter is exchanged properly, there will be no problems with hygiene.

Question: Is the supersonic air humidifier dangerous e.g. for children?

Answer:

The device is absolutely safe. If used in nurseries only cold steam should be used. The steam is cold and there a no rotating parts, which might be dangerous for children.

Question: How much and which kind of energy is used for supersonic air humidification?

Answer:

For the operation of the cold nebulizer and for the ventilation the device will need 40 watts. For the hot nebulizer and ventilation it will need 140 watts. For the evaporation of the steam the supersonic air humidifier uses energy from the space heating. Therefore it is possible that the space heating might decrease slightly.

Question: Does the ionization process release ozone?

Answer:

Yes, but in a harmless and minimal amount for both man and animal. Ozone is a natural product and is among others produced by the sea, at a waterfall, in the mountains and during thunder storms and lightening which result in a healthy smelling fresh scent. In nature the ozone exists as a means to clean the air. This natural process is copied in the Clean Air Optima ionic air purifiers.

All Clean Air Optima air purifiers are none-ozone generators. The Clean Air Optima air purifiers are Negative-Ion-Air Purifiers that release a minimal amount of ozone: much less than the internationally indicated and respected EPA and OSHA standards. That is why all Clean Air Optima air purifiers are classified as ozone-free.

All Clean Air Optima air purifiers meet the safety standards for low ozone emission as is standard for consumer products regarding electrostatic air purifiers.

We advise users with a history of respiratory problems to consult a doctor in order to assess the possible susceptibility for even the smallest amounts of ozone. (see the text below – Ozone and our health) For an optimal result when using an ionic air purifier a thorough ventilation of the indoor space where the machine is placed is of utmost importance. The Clean Air Optima ionic air purifier revitalises and refreshes the air in your living space with healthy negative ions but our air purifiers do not produce air.

From our manual of air purifiers in larger spaces: Ozone and our health

When you switch your Clean Air Optima air purifier on you may experience a new, fresh air. You smell ozone. Ozone is the compound of three oxygen atoms. The Clean Air Optima air purifying system uses an ionic process which releases a minimal amount of ozone. The Clean Air Optima air purifier meets the safety standards for low ozone emission, as established in the United States (less than 50 parts per 5 billion) and has been approved according to the UL 867 standard for consumer products for electrostatic air purifiers.

People who have respiratory problems, asthma, heart failure, lung problems and breathing problems, or problems regarding ozone should first consult their doctor whether or not this or any other machine which releases this amount of ozone is suitable for them in light of their health problems.
